Women experience many unique health challenges and for some, health challenges begin at a young age. Nurses whose specialty is not in women’s health may not be aware of unique health issues that impact women and contribute to poor health outcomes. This professional development activity will focus on discussing unique women’s health issues that every nurse should be aware of and will include specific nursing interventions that can be implemented. The goal is to empower women to take charge of their health through knowledge sharing and health promotion.
Session objectives:

- Identify three key preventative screening recommendations for women throughout the different stages of life.
- Arrange and promote education for the female patient population regarding age specific reproductive issues, family planning, perimenopausal/menopausal symptom management.
- Explain the pros and cons of long-term intrauterine devices, oral contraceptives, menopausal symptom relief, and the challenges presented by age.
